Apartments
- Fully furnished units usually joined to form a block. Includes
all kitchen and laundry requirements, as well as living and sleeping
areas. These may or may not be serviced.
Backpackers (Hostels)
- Usually independently owned houses or lodges providing inexpensive
accommodation ranging from bunk rooms, to private rooms in converted
homes and motels. Popular for visitors wishing to meet other travelers.
Bed & Breakfast
- A variety of hosted accommodation with breakfast included. May
be homestay accommodation (where guests stay in a private home)
or separate private facilities.
Boutique Accommodation
- A term used to describe accommodation which offers something special
or unique - a restored historic building, a country retreat, unique
charm, local art etc. These establishments offer the finest bed
and breakfast accommodation in luxury surroundings.
Farmstays -
Experience New Zealand's rural lifestyle. Often bed and breakfast,
with meals taken with the family, but many self-contained options
are available.
Holiday Homes
- Available to rent on a short or long-term basis are many
baches, cabins, holiday homes and cottages that are not used year
round by the owners.
Holiday Parks (Motor
Camps) - These offer a range of accommodation options from tent
sites to backpacker lodges and motels. On-site caravans may be available.
There are central facilities for ablutions and cooking and often
recreational areas and games rooms.
Hotels - Ranging
from world-class luxury resorts with bar and restaurant facilities
to the lower priced country pub. Rooms usually have a private bathroom,
TV and tea/coffee making facilities.
Luxury Lodges
- Superb facilities, excellent food, and exceptional level of service.
Usually in some of the most scenic and tranquil locations and often
considered a 'hideaway'.
Motels - Motels
usually have one or two bedrooms, lounge, bathroom and a fully equipped
kitchen. Larger motels often have facilities similar to hotels.
Resorts - Many
of the characteristics of luxury lodges, but with a wider range
of facilities (or facilities nearby) - e.g. restaurants, spas, tennis
courts, golf courses and swimming pools.
Self-contained
Accommodation - Fully furnished units, individual cottages,
or parts of a family home with a separate entrance. Includes all
kitchen and laundry requirements, as well as living and sleeping
