This remarkable part of New Zealand - where
deep ocean meets towering peaks in a dramatic landscape
is a captivating place, with eye-catching scenery and an abundance
of flora and fauna. Fiordland has achieved World Heritage
status and is renowned as a Sightseeing and Walking Capital.
Some of New Zealand's most famous walks are in
this region, including the Milford Track. However, the immensity
and wildness of this region can only really be appreciated
from the air or from a boat or kayak on the sounds and lakes. Explore
the hidden arms, discover bush-clad islands, kayak around shorelines
to see fur seals on the rocks. Bottlenose dolphins
frequently ride the bow waves and rare penguins
can often be seen. |

The attractive town of Te Anau
is the hub of the Fiordland region and provides civilisation on
the fringe of Fiordland's extensive wilderness. Beautifully situated
on the shores of Lake Te Anau, this town offers a range of fine
restaurants, shopping and all levels of accommodation. There are
a number of activities and trips here to keep you busy. Lake Te
Anau is New Zealand's second largest lake after
Taupo and its three arms penetrate into the mountainous forested
shore. |
