Spring (September - November)
Temperature range : 8ºC to 15ºC
The weather can be unpredictable in Spring. It can be warm and sunny,
the next minute showery and windy. Snow can still fall at the ski
resorts and the locals know that spring often brings the best skiing.
Many of the alpine hiking tracks reopen during this period and it's
a perfect time to take a garden tour. And blossoms abound - see
the events page for the Alexandra Blossom
Festival.
Summer (December - February)
Temperature range : mid teens to mid 20s
Long hot summer days! Perfect for taking a swim in the lake, waterskiing,
hiking, or enjoying an al fresco meal. The sun rises at about 5am
and sets at about 10pm so there's plenty of time for a range of
activities. There can still be the odd cold snap, so pack something
warm.
Autumn (March - May)
Temperature range : 10ºC to mid 20s
Central Otago is famous for it's autumn colours and the mild settled
weather is perfect for enjoying them. Go wine tasting, fishing or
enjoy see the events page for one of the
many festivals happening during this time.
Winter (June - August)
Temperature range : -2ºC to 10ºC
Time to enjoy the snow! Go snowboarding,
skiing or cross-country. The snow is usually only on the mountains
though, so you can enjoy a round of golf or walk by the lake at
any time of year. |
